I used v20283build.rar which is the latest build at the time of writing. Important: Ignore anything on that site which suggests downloading dxwnd.v2.02.02.fixed.exe. I think that is flagged as the 'latest' build in error, and it's an old version and just a standalone exe that won't even work by itself. Ignore it, and download one of the RAR archives from under Files / Latest Build. The feature you need to fix TRA is not in that old version, either.

Extract the archive to somewhere. For most people, I recommend putting it in a folder under your My Documents folder.

I recommend NOT storing it under Program Files or similar protected folders, unless you know how to modify the file permissions to give it write access. It keeps its config file in the same directory as the program, and if it's under Program Files it cannot edit it unless run as admin (and sometimes it's better to not run it as admin, although in our case it doesn't matter). Double-click dxwnd.exe. It will ask if you want it to acquire administrator capability. In our case, it does not matter, so click Cancel. The DXWnd window that appears will be empty to start with. Right-click the empty space and choose Add.

In the version I used, that meant Hook enabled, Run in Window, Hook all DLLs and Remap Client Rect are all checked; everything else unchecked. Click OK and you should see a green circle with Tomb Raider: Anniversary next to it in the DXWnd window. If you need to edit it again, right-click it and choose Modify.

Leave DXWnd running. You will always need to launch it and leave it running in the background before launching the game.

Now, run the Tomb Raider: Anniversary Setup program in Steam. Launch TRA in Steam, and it'll ask if you want to play the game or run the setup. Choose setup.) Set it to use the resolution you specified earlier. Click OK in the setup program.
